cedres & cloud for parador

06/01/2011

A matter of retrieving “impressions”, “vibrations”, from the photographic memory bank and conjuring darkness and light. Of choosing two perfectly evocative, symbolic moments in a poetic approach to two projects for high-gloss flooring.

Cedar

The image is backlit, blurred and misty. It is an image of the cedar of Lebanon planted by Chateaubriand in 1823 and around which Jean Nouvel designed the Fondation Cartier project. The image is zoomed, pixelated, reframed, then divided into 10 rectangles that serve as the flooring’s basis. All that’s left of the original are vague hints. The images link up subtlely and form woven segments that can be combined in endless variations.

Cloud

The sun comes streaming through a wall of coloured glass windows and merges into the reflections on the shiny black floor ofAgbarTower. Reframed and zoomed, the image turns into texture.
