Franck Argentin, Company Manager of the firm RBC, a contemporary furniture distributor, was named Managing Director of Jean Nouvel Design (JND).

Both men stepped into their roles on 4 January 2016.
These appointments are certain to reinforce the synergies between the two organisations and to ensure their evolution on the French and international stage.

Jean Nouvel tells us his devotion to Yohji Yamamoto’s creations : « As far as I can remember, I’ve been wearing Yohji. It was a natural match, with clothes that corresponded to my need : a question of proportion, and cuts that are at exactly the right distance from the body. In that silhouette I met a

kindred spirit, allowing a naturalness of gesture and a freedom of movement and circulation. »

Functionality is one very important aspect in the work of Yohji Yamamoto. Products are functional rather than ornamental, and it is left to the owner of the product to optimise and personalise each item.

The exhibition will present Less Less furniture from editor Unifor, whose design is Jean Nouvel Design.

The central piece is a totem, a mobile cabinet from Jean Nouvel’s most iconic piece.

Redesigned into a wardrobe for the occasion, it takes a new function at the Yohji Yamamoto boutique.

A collection in tune with the Yohji Yamamoto’s spirit : refined lines, minimalist curves and a special focus into every single details.

Jean Nouvel imagines a unique furniture collection modelled on Y’s Yohji Yamamoto line, a collaboration that illustrates the natural interactivity between couture and architecture.

Y’s Yohji Yamamoto is the active and more urban line of Yohji Yamamoto. Recognized for its timeless and sleek design cuts, this line embodies an urban lifestyle and counts already several collaborations such as Birkenstock, adidas, Dr. Martens, etc.

In this exhibition, seven brilliant architects from around the world offer their interpretation of the Series 7 chair, seen through the prism of their own cultural background and their personal concept of architecture.

For its first event, Hors Pistes went to Ouagadougou from 1st September to 15th October 2013. Over the forty-five days, European designers worked with Burkinabese artisans to create objects that combined each individual’s specialist knowledge.

The exhibition Jean Nouvel Design will present the process of exchange alongside the objects, photographs and silk-screen prints resulting from this first Hors Pistes experiment.

Jean Nouvel designed a building of pure volumes that takes off from the existing building in hewn stone and soars out into the vineyard in a horiztonal line. But beyond his precise response to the commission for a technical building, the architect has delivered a construction that brings out the exceptional position of the domaine, on the one hand, and on the other, provides an interpretation, both personal and universal, of his vision of wine and the pleasure of wine tasting. Covered in mirror-effect stainless steel slats in six different shades of red, the storehouse plays with our perception, just as the colour of a wine does, offering variations in reflection, intensity, hue, depth… Looking at it also means looking at the vines reflected in it in fragmented images and, depending on the visitor’s position, the vineyard landscape is reflected in inverted images thanks to the progressive inclination of the steel slats.

The roof was imagined as a panoramic terrace offering the visitor a fabulous lookout over the surrounding landscape of vineyards, dotted with grand chäteaus and villages and more. The terrace is covered in red glass gravel, like a mass of symbolic grapes the visitor can tread. It is partly covered and harbours a panoramic restaurant forming a gazebo, the only one of its kind in the Bordeaux wine-growing area. La Terrasse Rouge is open all year round.

Glazed on three sides and opening onto the terrace, with its red glass gravel, the restaurant is an invitation to conviviality and pleasure. It is entirely fitted-out with Essence tables, made of solid wood of different essences, designed by Jean Nouvel Design and crafted by Eric Rouchon, a cabinet-maker based in Sarlat.

Research and development on the theme of comfort, ease of the movement, handling, relaxing. An exhibition in texts, photos and maquettes of the key moments in the development of a sofa designed by Jean Nouvel for Arflex and presented in April 2014 as a preview prior to the Milan Furniture Fair.
